2nd Story Social

Born in 1901 and rooted in history, 2nd Story Social is a refined space crafted within a local landmark in the heart of downtown.  Warm brick and second story views, perfect for hosting weddings, corporate events and all of life's celebrations.

2nd Story Social began as a conversation between two friends about the possibilities and charm of a well-loved historic downtown building.  Formerly known by many in our community as Deena's; a popular upscale dress shop, which was a staple in downtown Rantoul for many years, but like many buildings of similar age, it had fallen to neglect through the years, and time had worn it down.  Recognizing the possibilities of the second story space, the planning, demolition, construction and rejuvenation of the once loved building began in 2023.  Brick by brick slowly breathing life back into the space through careful and thoughtful restoration.  Through this process a second story was created for this historic downtown building and 2nd Story Social was born.  A social space for new beginnings, second stories and all of life's in-betweens. 

Rooted in history and reimagined for today, 2nd Story Social is a gathering space created through a shared vision of restoration, community, and celebration.

The historic downtown building has long been part of the community’s story. In 2021, restoration began with a thoughtful renovation of the lower-level housing Country Financial, carefully preserving the character and integrity of the space while giving it new purpose. For Dawn Babb, the building also carried personal memories—she fondly remembers visiting Deena’s dress shop with her grandmother, which made the space feel familiar long before its next chapter began.

While the lower level was brought back to life, the upper floor remained unfinished—full of untapped possibility. Recognizing the potential of the second story, more than an empty floor—there was an opportunity to restore a historic space and create a place where family, friends and community could gather. Through restoration and shared vision, the second story was transformed into an inviting venue that blends historic character with modern celebration.

Today, 2nd Story Social stands as a space designed for connection, creativity, and community—a place where history whispers, celebrations come to life, and new chapters begin.
